HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Election Day is officially here and voter service centers across the state are seeing big crowds.
Election officials said on Oahu, waiting times range from 90 minutes to two hours at both Kapolei Hale and Honolulu Hale.
Residents began lining up at Kapolei Hale as early as 5 a.m.
Despite the heavy rains and thunderstorms, voters stood in the rain waiting almost over an hour for their turn to cast their ballot.
On Maui, Maui County offices will be closed for Election Day. The Maui Bus will be operating on its regular schedule.
Kauai voters can get a free ride today on the county bus to all destinations, including to the polls. All routes and ADA paratransit services are included.
Residents can still register to vote any time up to the election online or at a voter service center (see below).
Voters must bring a picture ID with them in order to vote.
All voter service centers are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Election staff will also be able to help you if you lost or damaged your ballot.
Ballots can be dropped off at any drop box until 7 p.m.
You might want to consider bringing a rain jacket or umbrella with you as heavy rains are expected in some areas.

Federal officials are keeping an eye out for threats of all kinds on election day.
FBI Honolulu has established an “election command post” to monitor and respond to any election related threats in the lead-up to and after the election.
“The purpose of the command post is to ensure the FBI is well positioned to respond to threats that would come in or information that would come in that would affect our election security,” said James Barnacle, FBI deputy assistant director of the Criminal Division. “Those threats include criminal threats such as threats to election workers, foreign Malign influence cyber threats and acts of domestic violence.”
The office will run 24 hours a day every day this week as results come in. It’s in coordination with state, local and federal agencies.
It’s an effort to ensure election security and safety as voters head to the polls.
You are urged to contact FBI Honolulu officials directly to report allegations of election fraud or other election abuses. Just call (808)566-4300.
As far as when Hawaii will start to see the first polls close, that will be at 1 p.m. Hawaii time, with the last at 8 p.m.
Critical swing states for the presidential race will be at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. HST.
